In June, Belun’s Early Warning, Early Response (EWER) system continued monitoring for violent incidents and changes to the security situation across Timor-Leste.
With 123 incidents, May was the second month in a row to set a new record for the most incidents ever registered by the EWER system in a single month. Conflicts related to land disputes and incidents that involved property destruction were at abnormally high levels. PNTL and F-FDTL personnel initiated fewer incidents in May than they did in April, but the PNTL’s response rate was also down.
